Brisbane 2050

Comic ...

I, Paul, 62, living in Brisbane in the year 2050, look back on an irreversibly changed world.
The climate tipping points, once warnings from science, are now reality. The permafrost soils of Siberia thawed, releasing methane — a gas 25 times more potent than CO₂ — further accelerating global warming. The rainforests of the Amazon, once the “green lungs” of the Earth, have turned into savannas because ongoing deforestation and droughts exceeded their resilience. Greenland’s ice lost mass relentlessly, with a long-term threat of seven meters of sea level rise.
CO₂ peaks of over 420 ppm were caused by decades of addiction to cheap fossil comforts. People wanted more growth, faster, cheaper. Growth instead of responsibility. The blame lay in decades of excessive CO₂ emissions, driven by industrial greed and political ignorance.
Today, in 2050, we know: every tenth of a degree matters. Every breath is now an act of rebellion. We are learning that the biosphere is not an afterthought. That responsibility is non-negotiable.
Looking back: our mistakes are our wake-up call. Those who feel it can still act.
