Bologna 2050
Comic ...
Hi I`m Paolo and 68 years old. Today in the year 2050, tomatoes cost twelve euros per kilo. And sometimes there are none.
When I was younger, I used to pick them myself, on soils that were loose and smelt nice. Today, 80 per cent of these areas are sealed or compacted. We lose more than 11 hectares of soils every day in Europe. This is used for roads, logistics parks and suburban housing estates.
Most people did not realize that the problem with the water was due to the concrete. Sealed soils could no longer hold rainwater. The water levels underground got lower. Droughts are a normal case in every year turned even Central Europe into dusty fields.
The birds died, as did the insects, and the same is true of the water and the diversity. Half of all arable wild herbs and a third of soil organisms are thought to be extinct.
We have ruined the soil in the name of short-term comfort. Today, 60% of people are suffering from hunger, loss and heat.
