"the barometer of our future"

 Bangladesh 2040

Comic ...

In the year 2050, I, Paula, 31 years old from Bangladesh, look at the world compared to 2020, and it was unrecognizable. Fifty percent of our country had sunk into the ocean; we now live on floating pontoons.
Temperatures had risen by 2.3 °C, and the sea level had increased by one meter. Cities like Lagos, Venice, or Miami were history, as freshwater turned salty and new diseases emerged. People had partly adapted or emigrated, yet the memory of their land remained.
In 2045, the Greenland ice shield melted at an alarming rate, with over 25% gone. Antarctica lost 200 billion tons of ice per year. Scientists warned about the tipping point, but it was too late. The oceans became acidic, leading to coral reefs dying along with many species.
In 2040, the great migration began. Millions of people left their homes. Conflicts over water and land increased. Food from land and sea became scarce, but innovations like vertical farms, restoration projects, and desalination plants offered hope.
2035, the turning point. The world stood at the edge, and global politics slowly began to understand. Every single step mattered, and together they created a future of adaptation.
